Why we ♥ Nan’s Collection of Jewels
We can not say enough about how much we LOVE Nan Fusco, the Jewelry and the woman!! Nan’s collection of unique pieces and creative designs is truly one of a kind. The creative versatility of this jewelry line offers abundant styling options; You may think a necklace is worn one way and come to find out you can wear it 5 different ways (sometimes more!) When you invest in a piece of Nan Fusco Jewelry, you’re investing in hand crafted excellence and you will not be disappointed. Nan has held Trunk Shows at select Neiman Marcus stores around the country, including Newport Beach and Las Vegas. You can also find Nan Fusco Jewelry at the ever so chic Aris on the Coast in Laguna Beach, MiPlace in Newport Beach, and other fine boutiques around the country. Check out the Nan Fusco feature in the September issue of Orange Coast Magazine and in the next issue on Montage Magazine. A few of Nan’s fringy and fabulous pieces will be featured in an article on the wild west’s influence on fashion this season.
How long have you been designing/making jewelry and at what point did you decide to make it your career?
I started roughly in 2003 before the huge designer jewelry boom, when I couldn’t find pieces that spoke to my personal style. Everything was either too homogenized and perfect looking like it was machine made, or just too cutesy and crafty. My husband and I had a small ad agency — he is a writer and art director and I have a BFA in graphic design. I was wearing two hats, working both careers and when the jewelry orders escalated, we made the decision to close the agency and focus on my true passion, jewelry making.
What is the inspiration behind your designs?/What inspired your most recent collection?
I am inspired and awe struck by mother nature’s riches… gemstones and treasures from the sea provide the ultimate inventory for my pieces. The collection is ever evolving and I am continually on the hunt for unusual and unexpected components to incorporate into my collection. I am also obsessed with fringe. Jewelry that is fluid on the body that swings and sways with every move is very sexy! It has become the hallmark of the Nan Fusco collection.
How would you describe your personal style?
I love to keep it simple and classic, but I will add a piece that funks it up a little to reflect my artistic (and slightly edgy) side. I rarely wear prints because solids provide the perfect canvas for showcasing the pieces I wear.
What Nan Fusco piece do you find yourself wearing the most?
There are a few bracelets that I’m holding onto that I wear almost every day. As the designer of one-of-a-kind jewelry, sometimes it’s hard to let go of the pieces I am obsessed with. There have been a few that I really regret selling because the components are so incredibly rare, but sometimes you just have to let go!
What’s next for Nan Fusco Jewelry?
I began with high carat gold and when the recession hit, I transitioned into sterling, but I’ve started mixing gold into the collection… look for high carat components in bracelets and necklaces. Time for a little luxury!
