How-to Master “Re-styling” in the New Year: The T-Shirt

We have one more New Years resolution to add the list! Become your own stylist by mastering the ability to “re-style” your whole closet-YES the whole thing!

This year we are challenging our readers, this means you, to re-style their own closets. For the first challenge in our “re-style series ” we will show you how-to take your favorite t-shirt and rock it with everything from your New Year’s Eve sparkles to your favorite boyfriend jeans. The key to mastering the skill of re-styling is practice. Just like everything else you’re good at, it takes practice.

Here are a few tips on Re-styling:

1. Take one hour a week and play “dress-up”.

2. Take one item in your closet and challenge yourself to style the item 3-5 different and new ways then you have before.

3. Be adventurous-It’s dress up.

4. If you’re stumped get inspired by OCSR, Pintrest, your favorite blogger (Atlantic-Pacific/Sincerely Jules/BJonesStyle-just to name a few of mine), and/or your favorite fashion magazine. When you get a few outfits you like, take them out to real-world-runway, the sidewalk. Trust me it time to “work-out” your fashion muscles!

For OCSR’s first look with our District Clothing T-shirt we paired the t-shirt with liquid leggings (for the big spenders, try leather leggings). Mixing layers and textures is an important component for adding visual interest to your look. Finish your look with a camo jacket, white Converse, and you’ve got a great new casual-day-look with your shinny “night-time” leggings and plain “day-time” t-shirt.

Stylist Tip: There are no more rules about “day-time” textures and “night-time” textures. Also, have fun with your accessories. This helps set your personal style apart from others. Remember… Be adventurous!

Did you invest in some serious sparkles for New Years Eve? Not to worry… Re-style your sequin blazer with a plain t-shirt and boyfriend jeans for a more casual look. Add a few accessory items with a “matte” finish, like suede to “tone-down” the sparkles. This perfectly works for hanging out with your friends, both day and night
