Waxing 101: Pre & Post Wax w/ The Wax Boutique

Best Practices Pre & Post Wax Appointment

with The Wax Boutique

Waxing… To some of us sounds like torture, and to others, it’s really not so bad. Whichever category you fall into, it’s a bit of a necessary evil for those of us living in Southern California. With most of our summer days ( and fall, winter & Spring) spent on the beach, we need to keep that unwanted body hair out of site. So whether you’re a seasoned professional, a first timer, or someone who dreads every wax appointment, we wanted to know, what can we do to get the best wax experience possible?

You may be asking yourself, why are we talking about waxing in December? Yes, the temps have finally started to cool and we are no longer spending our days lying on the sand. But, living in Southern California, you never know what mother nature is going to bring. And, who says a spontaneous, tropical vacation isn’t in our future?

We knew exactly who to turn to, and we took our questions to wax professional, & owner of The Wax Boutique in San Clemente, Kasey Pentecost. And, she had some amazing tips!

What advice would you give a first time client? How should they prep?

Make sure you’re hair is the proper length. Let your hair grow out ¼ inch or 3-4 weeks. This will allow for best results the first time around. From that point on we can recommend how many weeks out you should come back based on the growth you came in with.

If you’re really worried about the pain, you may take an Advil or Tylenol prior to your appointment. First time clients may feel a little tender the following day, but this will vary person to person. Keep in mind, what you feel the first time waxing/sugaring (fully grown out) won’t ever be the same feeling, as long as you maintain your appointments. Each time gets easier and easier! And, you’ll be shocked how little your hair grows back.

What advice do you give your return clients?

The number one most important thing is, DO NOT SHAVE in between appointments! You’ll only make it worse for yourself. With my clients at The Wax Boutique, I tell them, for the best results they want to book their appointments every 3-5 weeks.

Lastly, what are Post wax best practices?

Post wax, your pores are open and prone to bacteria. Stay away from pools, Jacuzzis, the ocean, working out, and anything that can make you sweat, for 24 hours after your appointment. You want to moisturize everyday with body lotions(fragrance free) or coconut oil. Lastly, exfoliate each time you shower to lift any dead skin that could be hiding stubborn hairs. At The Wax Boutique, we always want you to have the best results!
