I’m not a Model Either..
Body Shape Dressing with Co-Founder Natalie Dickens
It’s no secret that here at Style Report we love to bring you great local style. Each week we come up with an editorial concept, pull looks from SoCal’s best boutiques, and find the perfect model to shoot. And as we style the model, almost always, we love and NEED just about everything! There isn’t a single shoot that goes by that Rachael or I get an outfit on the model and don’t go “Oh my God, I’m obsessed with this look! I need this!” BUT, neither of us are models. We try that outfit on, and you can imagine our sadness when it doesn’t look on us exactly like it did on the model… what the heck! And Body shape dressing.
The truth of it is, while clothing will almost always look amazing on a model, the majority of us aren’t models. But we still love fashion just the same. And sometimes it’s nice to see clothing on someone with a similar body shape. We thought why not shoot a non model for a change. Because really, the secret to great style isn’t about having a model body. It’s all about body shape dressing and finding the right silhouettes for you.
So this week you get me! Because I’m not a model either, and I have a booty too.
Talking about body shape.. I have a butt and thighs but a tiny waist, so my general go to’s are a high waisted pant and a cropped top of some sort. WHY? This allows me to “play-up” my curves, and I like my curves. Knowing what you like about your body will help you dress in a way that’s most flatting to you.
Luckily there are so many different styles of both, so I’m able to get a good amount of variety. This look is probably my favorite of the whole feature. Give me a striped pant, off the shoulder anything and pair of slides, and I’m a happy girl! If I could wear this all day everyday, I would!

Cozy, chunky knit sweater and a pair of soft pants; Feels like sweats but looks totally put together. And I can’t get enough of this color combo! I’m obsessed with everything about this sweater! But because its a little boxy and oversized (and I don’t want to look heavier than I am, because who does) I do a slight front tuck to accentuate my waist.

Like Rachael, most days I live in a rotation of my favorite jeans and a tee of some sort. But some days you need a little something more than just a t-shirt. I’m definitely not overly girly so I loved the subtle edge of the dark florals mixed with the soft feminine details of the silk ruffles and cold shoulder. And this top can easily transition from Sunday Funday to Monday in the office.
A button down and a pair of skinnies is a no brainer. And always a great go to. But the real stand out in this look is the faux fur bomber jacket! What a great statement piece but still totally neutral and easily wearable. Now if only it were cool enough to wear it, and not 90 degrees at the end of October. Still holding out for the sweater weather!

We’re seeing a lot of vintage denim lately, which I love. But.. that booty and thighs I told you about makes finding rigid denim that fits me properly a challenge. If you’re like me, two things; One, you can use a belt to cinch in the waist and create more of a paper bag pant look with your vintage denim. Or go see Mary of Nightmare Repair. Mary’s specialty is reworked denim and she will rework a pair of vintage jeans to fit you perfectly. She’s also the in-house tailor over at Style Society!

What can I say about this dress… It’s just so pretty! From the floral and butterfly (very Gucci-esque!) embroidered applique to the midi length and the way it perfectly accentuates my hourglass figure; I’m kinda obsessed!

Every girl, no matter what shape or size, needs a good pair of high waisted, black skinny jeans. No, high waisted pants aren’t going anywhere! And can we talk about this gorgeous top… The color, the off the shoulder, the statement sleeve. A few of my favorite trends all in one!
Channeling my inner Carrie Bradshaw in this outfit. Because who else can pull off an outfit like this on a casual week day? I’m normally not a pink girl, but how rad is this pale pink moto jacket?! I love this outfit as a whole but what I love even more is how each of these pieces can be restyled many different ways.
